A day trip to Rab Old Town

Rab Town is one of the best-preserved medieval towns on the Adriatic, squeezed onto a narrow peninsula and instantly recognisable by its four bell towers. From Lopar it is roughly a 15-minute drive; in summer a bus runs regularly along the same road.

What to see

  • The four bell towers — walk Gornja ulica (the upper street) to pass all four; the campanile of St Mary's is the tallest and can be climbed for the view.
  • Komrčar park — a shaded pine park between the old town and the sea, perfect for escaping the afternoon heat.
  • The seafront — gelato, coffee and boats; round the peninsula in an easy half hour.

Rapska fjera

If you are here in late July, don't miss Rapska fjera — the island's medieval summer festival, when the town fills with costumes, crossbow tournaments, crafts and open-air feasting. Dates vary slightly each year, so ask us at the villa.

Practical

Park outside the walls (the old town is pedestrian), go late afternoon when day-trip crowds thin out, and stay for dinner — the konobas in the alleys are at their best after dark.
